Water Heaters & Scale Don't Mix!

We recently changed out an electric heating element on an electric water heater, and it was a great opportunity to take a picture of scale buildup! All water heaters build up scale from hard water, but electric water heaters are particularly vulnerable because their lower element sits in the pile of scale at the bottom of the water heater. If you read into manufacturer specifications, you're actually supposed to flush the water heater out once a year and hopefully this will resolve the scale issue. Failure to do so can actually void the warranty on the unit in some cases.
