If you're thinking that a new furnace might be the right solution for you, you've come to the right place!  While le the upfront costs can be high, you can buy yourself piece of mind for years to come. There are a lot of factors that go into choosing the right furnace for your needs.  Here are a couple:

  • Fuel Source: Oil, natural gas, propane, and electric are the fuel sources we see in our area.  Most folks stick with the same type of system they currently have, but we do see people change from time-to-time.

  • Efficiency: Furnace pricing is often dependent on the level of efficiency you decide to purchase.  Lower efficient units are often significantly cheaper, but the high efficiency units are also eligible for rebates from your energy provider.

  • Sizing: It's important to get the right sized furnace for your home.  Depending on what you need, the furnace size can be the deciding factor on what style of furnace you get.

Frequently asked Furnace Replacement Questions:

When should I replace my furnace?

The answer is dependent on the age and condition of your current furnace.  We have some furnaces that are 40 years old that we work on, and the homeowner simply wants to keep nursing it along as long as they can to avoid the cost burden of a new furnace. On the other hand, we have some customers that have a 17 year old furnace that's occasionally giving them grief, and they're just unwilling to have the concern of a failure fester.  It really comes down to, how much money are you willing to invest in your current old furnace, versus putting that money towards a new unit.  In general, we typically say that the kiss of death on an old furnace is when the heat exchanger goes bad.  this is because a heat exchanger can cost anywhere from $500-$3000 in parts alone, which gets you well on your way to a new furnace system.  Occasionally we also see furnaces that are so old that you just can not get any more parts from them.  The typical age range of furnaces that we replace are probably around 20-30 years old.

What brand of furnace should I get?

Everyone always asks what the best brand is for a new furnace.  Many customers try to educate themselves on online reviews and Consumer Reports, to try to determine what furnace is going to treat them best.  Unfortunately, we really don't know what design will triumph in the end when we're 15 years down the road.  An example is with Carriers... Carrier built furnaces in the late 90's and early 2000's that were top performing, and had super high efficiency for their day.  Unfortunately, the heat exchanger design was prone to sooting up and getting plugged, resulting in premature failures.   These heat exchangers are covered under warranty most of the time, allowing for repairs with minimal cost (as long as they're in stock), but the point is, no one really knew until 15 years down the road.  The best thing to do is find a good product, that is installed by a great company that is committed to standing by their installation for years to come.

What furnace brand do you carry?

We carry Amana, which is the Cadillac line of Goodman.  We like Amana, because they have outstanding warranties out of the factory (lifetime replacements, life time on the heat exchangers, etc), and parts are extremely easy to find.  We can also get Coleman, Heil, Day & Night, etc., but they don't come with the same  warranties and manufacturer backing as Amana.

Educational Insights
  • Keeping your furnace in peak condition not only ensures a comfortable home environment but also contributes to its longevity and efficiency. Here are some essential tips and information to help you maintain your furnace:

  • Regular Maintenance: Annual inspections and maintenance by a professional can prevent unexpected breakdowns and extend the life of your furnace.

  • Filter Replacements: Regularly changing your furnace filter (every 90 days at minimum) can significantly improve air quality and the efficiency of your heating system.

  • Understanding Efficiency Ratings: When selecting a new furnace, consider its Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) rating. A higher rating indicates greater energy efficiency, contributing to both environmental conservation and lower energy costs.
